First Thoughts of Oroville

[Sunday morning we woke up to news of a 6.0 earthquake in Napa Valley which is about 100 miles to Michael.  The Mission President in the neighboring mission sent an email out to parents immediately saying all missionaries were safe and counted for.  Curious if Michael felt anything, we were quickly comforted.]  No I didn't. I feel like I keep getting ripped off with potentially cool earthquake stories...oh well.

Transfer to Oroville

I am getting transferred up north to Oroville to be one of the Gridley ZL's. I am so excited because my new companion is Elder Page. We came out to the field together. If I could pick anyone to be my companion I would pick Elder Harris, but I have been saying for a long time that number 2 would be Elder Page, because he is awesome and we get along really well, so I am excited! And if that isn't enough, both Elder Geisler and Elder Benedict are going to be in my zone, and on top of that, Elder Geisler's companion is the DL and Elder Benedict is my DL, so I get to go on exchanges with both of them!!!!!!! Hahaha it is going to be a party these last few transfers! [Michael trained both Elder Geisler and Elder Benedict.]

Priesthood Power and Faith

My companion is feeling much better since he just had a cold. I am not sure exactly how bad it actually was, but it did cause us to spend a lot of time at home. Haha I don't think I am any stronger than other people. I think more of it is just in your head...I guess that is what I learned from your inspired parenting style of making us go to school and at least "try" to stay, and then call home if we couldn't. I think almost every time I was able to stay once I got out of the house...aside from that one time where I almost passed out in class, but besides that, I attribute it to you guys.

Happy 20th Birthday and 18 Month Mark!

I did have a good birthday.  I didn't tell anyone when it was. My companion didn't even know until after. I was on exchanges with the AP's in Rocklin, and while we were on Facebook they saw the stuff you posted and figured out when it was. They were really nice, but there isn't much you do for a birthday out here anyway, so that was about it. I loved the ties you got, they were awesome! And that NOR-CAL hat was legit! Thank you so much! Okay, I haven't checked the mail yet today, so we will see if it came. You guys sure know how to make a day special. Thank you.

7/28/14 Preach by the Power of God

We try to help our investigator family as much as we can. They are a great family, they just don't always make the best decisions; although I guess that is true for most of us. Hopefully they will decide to change!

So it turns out, that this sister we helped set apart last week with the Stake President is going to the Korea Busan Mission, which is the same as Courtney Hurley. If you get a chance to talk to her, tell her to watch out for a Sister Walker ( I believe they are both in the MTC right now), that is the missionary we helped set apart. I am sure she was way too nervous to remember our names, but it was cool to be a part of it. At the setting apart it was just us, the Stake President, this missionary, and her parents. By the end of the setting apart, all three of them (mom, dad, missionary) were crying. I guess she is the oldest in the family, so I can relate there. As far as how it was through my eyes, it just made me wish I had written down some of the things from my setting apart so I could remember them. I expressed this at dinner with President Hall and his wife before we went to help, and he said that we don't always remember what is said, but the Lord does and he will bless us with the promised blessings whether or not we remember them. The Stake President here is very in tune with the Spirit, a great speaker, and excellent administrator, so it is cool to get to work so closely with him.
